Telehealth

Telehealth
Completing treatment is only the beginning of the recovery process from addiction and mental illness. The transition back to life outside of treatment can be challenging and the temptation to relapse can be overwhelming. Most people in early recovery have very busy schedules which may prevent them from attending scheduled meetings or appointments but skipping therapy sessions can be dangerous and derail treatment. Having a specialized therapist who is only a click away helps to ensure continued success. You can now talk to a Sovereign Health trained professional remotely!

What Is Telehealth?
At Sovereign Health, we believe that people in early recovery need plenty of support after completing treatment. An exciting new aspect of our continuing care program is Telehealth. Using Telehealth allows patients to receive ongoing therapy from anywhere using their computer, tablet or smartphone to remotely connect with a clinician.

Telehealth allows patients to receive counseling via a HIPAA-compliant videoconferencing system. Patients are matched with clinicians and are set up with their own secure account for telehealth. Sessions typically last approximately 60 minutes, similar to a traditional one-on-one therapy session in an office. Privacy is secured through a special HIPAA-compliant interface.

Why Telehealth?
Psychotherapy (or talk therapy) is a critical element of effective treatment, but the emotional issues that often underlie addiction and mental illnesses can take a year or more of therapy to reconcile. Teletherapy after treatment is an important part of the healing process to ensure that unresolved issues do not undermine recovery.

Teletherapy also provides the ongoing support necessary to maintain newly formed, healthy lifestyle habits while avoiding relapse triggers as patients resume their career, family and other responsibilities.

Telehealth’s benefits include:

  • Allows individualized scheduling
  • Saves travel time and expense
  • Makes ongoing treatment easy
  • Provides easy access to specialized therapists
  • Makes continuing care possible for people without transportation, in rural areas or with disabilities
  • Online therapy has been scientifically proven to be beneficial; and there is strong evidence that telehealth is as effective as face-to-face psychotherapy.

Who Are the Clinicians?
The clinicians are licensed, professional counselors that specialize in providing online therapy. Patients are matched with clinicians who have expertise in their conditions; these professionals are located in the same state in which patients reside. But patients are free to change their clinicians as needed until they find someone with whom they feel comfortable, just as they would with a face-to-face provider.
